CHICAGO – A Jackson County nonprofit group will be receiving part of $19 million in funding to expand the Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program which creates a qualified talent pipeline of diverse candidates in the construction and building trades. Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity made that announcement Monday.
The Climate Economy Education will receive $325,000.
A total of 38 program recipients serving 1,900 community members statewide were given either a new or renewed grant. The grant for the Jackson County non-profit is new.
The grant funding supports the state’s continued effort to build a pipeline of talent and increase access to good-paying jobs for historically underrepresented populations.
