CARBONDALE – One person is dead and another had to be taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for treatment due to smoke inhalation and was released following a fire at an apartment building located at 300 South Marion Street in Carbondale around 11:15 Wednesday morning.
According to Carbondale Fire, after firefighters arrived and went inside, they found the fire inside one of the apartments with a person inside. Despite efforts from first responders, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Their name has not been released pending family notification.
The fire is under investigation. More information is expected to be released when it becomes available.
