TULLAHOMA, TN – Gerald Wayne “Jerry” Lemmon, 77, of Tullahoma, TN passed away December 29, 2024, surrounded by family at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
He was born August 28, 1947 to James Irvin and Helen Ruth (Hutchcraft) Lemmon in Mt. Vernon, IL. He was married to Theresa Ellis in Mt. Vernon, IL, on June 21, 1974.
He grew up and attended school at Dahlgren Elementary and High Schools, in Dahlgren, IL. He was a graduate of Rend Lake Junior College, Ina, IL, and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1965 to 1968 as a missile guidance technician. He was a retired engineer from General Radiator Division in Mt. Vernon, IL, in 1986 and from Calsonic Kansei North America in Shelbyville, TN, in 2012. He also worked for McCord Heat Transfer Corp. in Canton, SD. He was a past member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion. He enjoyed his hobbies of genealogy research, oil painting and playing his banjo and mandolin.
Mr. Lemmon was a member of St. Stephens Anglican Church in Tullahoma where he served as a lay minister, church treasurer, vestry member and as a delegate to annual diocesan synod in Atlanta, GA. He was a past Senior Warden of the Vestry of the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, David R. Lemmon of Mt. Vernon, IL. He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Travis Cross. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Theresa Dawn (Ellis) Lemmon of Tullahoma; two sons, Marc W. Lemmon and spouse Christy of Antioch, TN, and Allan W. Lemmon and partner Jennifer of Little Rock, AR; one daughter, Amy E. (Lemmon) Hambrick and spouse George of Estill Springs, TN, one sister, Sheryl Ann (Lemmon) Moss and spouse Larry of Dahlgren, IL; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Harrison) Lemmon of Mt. Vernon, IL.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Eli Lemmon of Antioch, TN; Thomas Lemmon and partner Kiara of Manchester, TN; and Breanna Lemmon and partner David of Mt. Juliet, TN; Stevin and Tyler Register of Estill Springs, TN; Rachel (Hambrick) Ocheltree and spouse Ryan of Decherd, TN; and Kevin Hambrick of Estill Springs, TN. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Caleb, Riley, Eden; and six step-great-grandchildren, Isabella, Aiden, Ethan, Lily, Elias and Oliver. He is also survived by one niece and two nephews and several grand nieces and nephews.
The Davis Culbertson Funeral Home in Tullahoma was in charge of local arrangements and Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro, IL, in charge of final services. Mr. Lemmon will be buried at Richardson Hills Cemetery in Dahlgren, IL; near his parents and grandparents where military graveside services will be held.
Visitation for Gerald will be from noon to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Harre Funeral Home, Dahlgren, IL, with a graveside service following at Richardson Hills Cemetery, Dahlgren. Pastor Brad Sloan will officiate the graveside service.
