MAUNIE – The White County Sheriff’s Office says a man has been charged after he shot at a woman with a compound bow and then assaulted her Friday.
Sheriff Jordan Weiss says deputies assisted by ISP, Conservation Police and a Carmi Police K9 Unit responded to the incident on Johnson Street in Maunie.
A deputy spoke with Stephanie Graham, who said Eric Vessels had pointed a compound bow at a family member of Graham’s, then pointed it at her and discharged it. The arrow missed Graham and struck the wall. Vessels then struck Graham’s head several times with his hands and feet.
Several witnesses statements were taken while on scene, and a signed complaint was taken by Graham.
Upon investigation, a broad head arrow was found in the wall by where Graham was standing. Graham was taken to Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado for her injuries.
After a lengthy search of the area, and the use of the Carmi Police K9, a deputy found Vessels and took him into custody.
Vessels was charged on scene with Attempted Homicide, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault, and Reckless Conduct.
A subsequent search warrant was conducted at a home on Morgan Street in Maunie. A compound bow and a broken arrow and quiver were seized from the home.
