Texico House Fire Under Investigation, No Injuries Reported

TEXICO (WMIX) – A rural Texico home was destroyed by fire Friday evening.

Jefferson Fire responded to the blaze at a house on North Hail Lane, where the homeowner, Greg Land, discovered the fire while setting up a deer blind. He safely evacuated his wife and elderly father before the fire spread through the home, causing extensive smoke, water and structural damage.

The fire is believed to have started from a burn pit near the house. Firefighters from several nearby departments assisted in battling the flames, which were under control by 9 p.m.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating.

Fire crews returned Saturday morning to address smoldering roof remnants.
