MARION – Someone claiming to be from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office is calling residents saying they have an active arrest warrant and need to turn themselves into the sheriff’s office or pay a fee over the phone.
The sheriff’s office says the call comes from a local phone number or displays No Caller ID. The caller falsely claims to be an officer or the chief deputy at the sheriff’s office.
Do not meet these scammers in person or agree to give them any money.
Please be aware that the sheriff’s office does not solicit money over the phone and that no cash bond is generally required in Illinois criminal cases.
