MARION – Alcohol played a role in a rollover crash in the 5500 block of South Market Road in Marion early Sunday morning.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says the driver, Homer Borrego, was cited for DUI, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident. He was lodged in the Williamson County Jail.
Borrego and his two passengers left the roadway, struck an embankment, became airborne and rolled several times before coming to rest near the front door of a home. Lake of Egypt Fire arrived and the occupants declined medical treatment.
A strong odor of alcohol was reported coming from both the vehicle and the driver. A witness said they saw the occupants tossing beer bottles out of the truck prior to deputies arriving. Beer bottles were located both inside the truck and in the yard immediately surrounding the crash scene.
Borrego failed a standardized field sobriety test. He was then arrested and cited.
