Carbondale Man Charged in Recent Armed Robberies

CARBONDALE – A Carbondale man is behind bars in Jackson County charged with two counts of Armed Robbery stemming from two recent armed robberies in Carbondale.

Carbondale Police says the robberies on Jan. 12 and Jan. 17 involved delivery drivers happening near the 2400 block of South Illinois Avenue. The investigation of the robberies eventually led to a search warrant for a home in the 2500 block of South Illinois Avenue that was executed Friday.

During the search, detectives located evidence related to the robberies and arrested one of the residents, 19-year-old Oquant K. Gails, for two counts of Armed Robbery. Gails was lodged in the Jackson County Jail. He awaits a detention hearing. More charges may be pending.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigations.
