METROPOLIS – IDOT reminds you that work zone lane restrictions on the I-24 Ohio River Bridge in Metropolis begin Monday, weather permitting.
The three-year I-24 Ohio River Bridge Rehab Project is being led by IDOT. Lane restrictions will continue until Oct. 14. Project dates for 2026 and 2027 will be announced later by IDOT
Work will include replacement of expansion joints and deck overlay, structural steel repairs, bridge painting, and other concrete repairs.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Concrete barriers will be installed across the length of the bridge and width restrictions will be in effect.
You can expect delays, so take other routes.
Message boards will be in place on the Illinois and Kentucky side of the bridge to reminds you about the work zone. The entire project is expected to be completed by September 2027.
As a reminder, due to weight, height and width restrictions, large commercial vehicles and semi-trucks are prohibited from crossing the U.S. 45 Ohio River “Brookport” Bridge between Paducah and Brookport.
