JOHNSTON CITY – A woman was recently lodged in the Williamson County Jail for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon following a traffic stop in Johnston City.
According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, they saw the vehicle conduct a short stop at a drug house known for distributing narcotics. After leaving the home, deputies saw the vehicle commit several vehicle violations and was stopped.
Deputies identified the driver as Brityn N. Zanotti and the passenger as Ann M. Melvin. Melvin was known to deputies from prior arrests for Possession of Methamphetamine.
A sheriff’s office K9 was brought in to do a free air sniff of the vehicle which resulted in a positive alert.
A probable cause search of the vehicle located a black zipper bag containing a gray Smith and Wesson Model 622 .22LR Caliber handgun, a black Beretta Model U22 NEOS .22LR Caliber handgun, and ammunition.
The firearms were not properly cased and were immediately accessible to the occupants.
When questioned Zanotti stated the firearms were hers. She did not have a valid FOID or concealed carry permit. She was then arrested and taken to jail on the gun charge.
