David L. Cameron

WEST FRANKFORT – David L. Cameron, 79, of West Frankfort passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Integrity Rehab and Nursing Center at 5:03 p.m.

He was born on January 31, 1946, in Belknap, Illinois to Louis and Mary (Russell) Cameron. He attended the family church, Cedar Hill Chapel in West Frankfort, where he served as song leader from 1980-2014. He was an Air Force Veteran serving with the military police guarding nuclear missiles. He was an avid bowler and sports fan, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. David enjoyed mowing his lawn, fishing and going golfing. He loved his grandchildren and was a coal miner for 40 years.

David was preceded in death by his parents; brother Russell; and sisters, Brenda Barnes and Bernita Gore.

He is survived by his wife, Jill; son, Tracy Cameron; daughters, Cassie (Joe) Laswell and Katrina (Gavilan) Spetter; brothers, Dewey (Melva) Cameron, Carl (Margaret) Cameron, Gordon (Janice) Cameron, Gary (Faye) Cameron, and Boyd (Linda) Cameron; sisters, Alice (Bob) Racey, Shelia (Jerry) Jones, and Denise (James) Short; four grandchildren Michael J. and Maci Laswell, and Avalynn and Madalynn Spetter; one great-grandchild Maritza; several nieces and nephews; and family friend, Roger Hauenstein.

Services will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at the Union Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with Pastor Mark Minor officiating. Interment will be in the East Fork Cemetery in West Frankfort. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service. Military rites will be accorded by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard and the American Legion Post 1961 of Orient and Post 177 of Zeigler.
