Emma Maxine (Clark) Brake

CARMI – Emma Maxine (Clark) Brake, age 94, passed away at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Wabash Senior Living and Rehabilitation in Carmi.

Emma Maxine (Clark) Brake was born on Wednesday, October 8, 1930, in Hamilton County. She was the oldest daughter of Charles and Evalee (Martin) Clark.

On January 11, 1947, she married Robert Eugene Brake, son of Arlie and Floy (Kohl) Brake, at her parent’s home south of Dahlgren. They were married 55 years when he passed away on July 25, 2002. Her hobbies were quilting, crocheting, embroidering and gardening. She was of Pentecostal faith.

Surviving are her children; Cartha Hicks, Parkin, AR, Linda (Louis) Hammersley, McLeansboro, John Brake Sr., Rockford, Ivan (Karen) Brake, Galva, Iva (Simon) Kurien, Springfield, MO, Thresia Heldt, Sycamore, Edna (John) Bock, Springfield, MO; three sisters, Nadine Tucker, Benton, Alma (Jim) Lowery, Opdyke, and Phyllis (Tom) Hollingsworth, Opdyke. 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Marianne Vines-Volkert; granddaughter, Amy Lynn Vines; grandson, Marion Edward Hicks Jr.; two sons-in-law, Marion Hicks Sr. and Brian Vines; and three brothers; Bobby, Richard and Ernest.

Visitation for Maxine will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Monday March 24, 2025, at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro with the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, McLeansboro with Reverend Ivan Brake officiating.

The Harre Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
