WHITTINGTON – One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Friday morning on southbound I-57 in Franklin County.
According to Illinois State Police, troopers responded to the crash scene around 5:20 a.m. on southbound I-57 at milepost 76.5.
One vehicle was going north and went off the roadway into the center median. It then went into the southbound lanes striking another vehicle, killing that vehicle’s driver. The driver of the vehicle that ran off the road and passengers in both vehicles were taken to an area hospital with injuries.
Southbound I-57 at milepost 76 was shut down for a few hours. Traffic was detoured.
All lanes of I-57 were back open at 10 a.m.

ISP is also reporting a crash involving two semis with trailers happened around 7:45 this morning on Illinois 37 south of the Franklin/Jefferson County line. No injuries are being reported.
