Man Charged with Attempted Murder in July Shooting on East Grand Ave. in Carbondale

DU QUOIN/CARBONDALE – Two Du Quoin residents have been arrested in connection with a July 2023 shooting that happened in the 700 block of East Grand Avenue in Carbondale.

According to the Carbondale Police Department, their detectives continue to investigate the shooting on July 29 in which a person was shot by a suspect who was not immediately found or located. The victim was hospitalized and survived the injuries.

In the course of the investigation, detectives identified 18-year-old Blake D. Morrison, of Du Quoin, as the shooting suspect.

With assistance from the Jackson County State’s Attorney, an arrest warrant was obtained for Morrison, charging him with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. In addition, a warrant for 19-year-old Chloe A. McGrew, of Du Quoin, was also obtained, charging her with Aiding or Concealing a Fugitive.

On Friday, Carbondale Police detectives coordinated with the Illinois State Police, Du Quoin Police Department, and the Perry County Sheriff’s Office and arrested Morrison and McGrew in Du Quoin without incident on the warrants. The investigation revealed the suspects and victim are acquaintances and this was not a random act of violence. They were lodged in the Perry County Jail and will eventually be extradited to the Jackson County Jail.
