SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – There’s no hazardous weather in our forecast for today, but the National Weather Service in Paducah says a strong storm system Thursday night through Friday night will bring widespread heavy rains, extremely gusty winds, and possibly a change over to snow to the area.
An Arctic air mass will arrive behind the Friday storm system, and that will lead to a significant and potentially dangerous/damaging cold air outbreak across the area over the weekend and well into next week.
Temperatures will remain below freezing over the entire area Sunday through Tuesday and morning wind chill temperatures will be well below zero over much of the region Sunday and Monday.
In addition to the extreme cold, another storm system could bring accumulating snow to the region at some point Sunday into Monday.
