MT. VERNON (WMIX) – Mt. Vernon Township High School Superintendent Melanie Andrews has announced she’ll be submitting her resignation effective at the end of this school year.
According to Superintendent Andrews, the difficult decision was made following her father’s diagnoses last year of dementia.
She says as the disease progresses, she wants to be able to spend as much time with her dad as possible, noting that for now he still asks about how many students are enrolled and how the Rams are playing.
Her last day as superintendent will be June 30, 2024. But Andrews won’t be leaving education completely and she won’t be leaving the area. She’s taking a position at ROE #13, where she worked prior to taking the superintendent’s role at MVTHS.
Andrews says as she looks back at the last four years as superintendent, she’ll always think of all they’ve have accomplished at MVTHS, and she knows those positive things will continue because of the hard work they’ve accomplished.
Andrews was named the region’s Superintendent of the Year in 2023. She thanks everyone who has supported her in the past will continue to do so and she thanks everyone for the great honor of serving as superintendent, explaining that it will forever be one of the great highlights of her life.
