ENFIELD – An Enfield man is facing multiple charges for allegedly stealing a UTV from a Carmi business earlier this month and having meth and drug paraphernalia in his home.
According to Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter, on Monday, Feb. 5, officers were informed that sometime between Sunday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. and Monday, Feb. 5 at 9 a.m., someone had tampered with and destroyed theft prevention cables and stole an orange and silver Polaris side by side from the Car Corral in Carmi.
Over the next several days, Carmi Police investigated the theft by obtaining video footage from various locations and by speaking with several people. On Sunday, Feb. 11, Carmi Police received enough information and sought and obtained a search warrant for the home and all property of Robert McGehee located at 209 E. Hosick St. in Enfield.
Police were assisted in executing the search warrant that afternoon by the White County Sheriff’s Department and the Norris City Police Department. During the execution of the search warrant, the stolen Polaris was recovered from a garage located on the McGehee property. It had been altered by painting and VIN destruction.
McGehee was placed under arrest at that time. Police and the sheriff’s office continued their search inside the home and found illegal drug items.
As a result of the search warrant, McGehee was booked on charges of Possession of Stolen Vehicle, Defacing a Manufacturers ID Number, Possession of Methamphetamine 400-900 grams, Unlawful Use of Property, Possession of Stolen Property, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
The investigation continues into this theft and additional arrests are expected in the future.
