METROPOLIS – The Metropolis Police Department released the following information on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
On March 18, 2024, Metropolis officers were called to Harrah’s Casino. Security had detained Arlen A. Odell, 44, of Sycamore, IL. Odell had been previously trespassed from Casino property. Odell was charged with Criminal Trespass to Property and released on a notice to appear.
On March 19, 2024, a Metropolis officer observed Cale A Lewis, 42, of Metropolis in the 1200 block of Ferry. The officer was aware that Lewis was wanted on a warrant. Lewis began running and he ran into his residence. Lewis was found hiding under a bunch of clothes and taken into custody. Lewis was wanted on a warrant for FTA-Theft, issued by Massac County. Lewis was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
On March 21, 2024, a Metropolis Officer stopped a Dodge pick-up truck on West 10th and Simmons. The truck had a defective windshield and the officer recognized the driver, Jimmy D. Werner, 46, of Golconda and was aware that his driver’s license was suspended. Werner was taken into custody and a search revealed a black box containing numerous items of drug paraphernalia as well as 3 loaded syringes containing a controlled substance, and 2 baggies containing Methamphetamine. Werner was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession with Intent to Deliver and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Werner was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
On March 24, 2024, a Metropolis officer observed a silver Chrysler traveling on East 8th from Filmore. The officer recognized the driver, Terrell B. Dean, 38, of Golconda. The officer was aware that Dean’s driver’s license was revoked. Dean could not provide proof of insurance. Dean was charged and released on a notice to appear.
On March 24, 2024, Metropolis officers were called to a fight in progress at 6th and Pearl. Upon arrival, Officers met with the parties involved. The investigation led to the arrest of Jon D. Wells, 63, of Metropolis for Battery. Wells was released on a notice to appear.
On March 27, 2024, Christina L. Avila, 43, of Metropolis was arrested near 13th and Catherine. She was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for FTA-Possession of Methamphetamine. Avila was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
On March 27, 2024, Metropolis officers were called to the 1100 block of Metropolis. The caller found a small child clad only in a diaper wandering alone along the busy street. Officers attempted to locate a parent without success. The child which appeared to be about two years old was then taken to the Metropolis Police Department and DCFS was contacted. The mother, Daisy L. Downen, 43, of Metropolis eventually showed up at the police department. She was arrested and charged with Child Endangerment. She was released on a notice to appear and the child was turned over to DCFS.
On March 30, 2024, at 11:20 p.m., a Metropolis officer stopped a gray Ford SUV for no taillights. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected a very strong odor of raw Cannabis emitting from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed items related to drug trafficking. Also found were 3 bags of Methamphetamine, (approximately 114 grams), 26.8 grams of Cannabis, and a large sum of cash. The passenger of the vehicle, Travis C. Blanton, 32, Joppa, admitted that the items were his and not the drivers. Blanton was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Cannabis and Possession of Cannabis with the intent to deliver. Blanton was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
