Fairfield Man’s Trial for Sexually Assaulting Minor Set for July 8

FAIRFIELD (WMIX) – After nearly six years, a 41-year-old Fairfield man may be heading to trial on a 2018 Wayne County case accusing him of sexual assault of a person under the age of 13.

Jason Hammock appeared in court Friday via Zoom. His attorney informed the court that he no longer plans to call an expert witness at the trial.

Hammock was arrested in May of 2018 on charges accusing him of offenses committed against two girls under the age of 13.

He’s facing two Class X felonies for predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13 and two Class 4 felonies accusing him of criminal sexual abuse by force. He was advised early in the court case that predatory criminal sexual assault of a child has a mandatory life sentence.

The trial is now scheduled for July 8 in Wayne County Court, with the final pretrial conference set for June 10 at 2:30 p.m.
