METROPOLIS – A Metropolis man has been charged in connection with the recent theft of an electric bike.
According to Metropolis Police, officers were called to Huck’s for a theft last Wednesday. The victim told police she parked her electric bike outside and went into Huck’s for 15 minutes. Her bike was stolen during this time.
Later that morning once the manager arrived, video footage was obtained of the theft. The thief was identified as 41-year-old Kevin B. Somner of Metropolis. Officers learned that Somner was living in a camper down a dead end lane on Massac Creek Road. Officers went to the location and saw the bicycle. Somner was also located and placed under arrest.
The bicycle was damaged where he removed the ignition and damaged the battery.
Somner was charged with Theft and Criminal Damage to Property. He was released on a notice to appear.
