Mt. Vernon Woman Arrested for Fire Set at Apartment Complex

MT. VERNON (WMIX) – Mt. Vernon Police arrested a 35-year-old Mt. Vernon woman Thursday in connection with a fire set Wednesday night on Rose Lane in Mt. Vernon.

According to interim Police Chief Robert Brands, Whitney Turner was arrested and taken to the Jefferson County Jail for alleged aggravated arson.

Chief Brands says Mt. Vernon Fire responded around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to 4307 Rose Lane where they discovered someone had attempted to set a door on fire, so they called Mt. Vernon Police to investigate.

That investigation led to Turner’s arrest for alleged arson. She was taken to the Jefferson County Jail.

Due to people being present in the apartment where the door was set on fire and also due to people being present in the apartment complex, the charge was aggravated.

She was formally charged Friday in Court with Class X felony aggravated arson knowing people were present. She’s next scheduled to appear Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.
