MT. VERNON – Ivy Jean (Moore) Elliston, 64, of Mt. Vernon, IL, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at her home in Mt. Vernon, IL. Ivy was born on January 10, 1960, in Carmi, IL, to Patrick Joseph Moore & Gerri (Loehr) Moore.
Ivy worked as a truck driver for 35 years. She was a graduate of Wabash Valley Junior College with a degree in Radio & TV Broadcasting, and later received a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. She enjoyed reading, and loved her pet dogs & cats. “Nanny” adored her granddaughter, Abbie, and was very proud to have helped raise her. She was looking forward to the birth of her great-grandchild in the near future. She was the best mother and grandmother, and was a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt. Ivy had a heart of gold, and was always willing to help out anyone in their time of need.
Ivy is survived by her mother, Gerri Moore of Dahlgren, IL; her daughter, Samantha Someske (and husband Sean) of Ashley, IL; her granddaughter, Abbie Flota of Mt. Vernon, IL; two sisters, Anita Davis (and husband Steve) of Opdyke, IL, and Terri Cross of Dahlgren, IL; special friend Dale White of Dahlgren, IL; and several extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marck Elliston; her father, Patrick Moore; and her grandparents.
The family of Ivy Jean (Moore) Elliston is organizing their own memorial service and burial of ashes to take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Dahlgren, IL. Those wishing to attend the service should meet directly at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial donations may be made in Ivy’s memory to the Jefferson County, IL Animal Shelter, located at 107 E. Perkins St., Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
The Gholson Funeral Home of Dahlgren is assisting the family with cremation.
